Friends of Chernobyl’s Children is a registered charity which devotes its energies to raising funds to bring children, from Belarussia to the United Kingdom for a month every year.
The charity targets children from orphanages or disadvantaged homes, aged between six and thirteen. These children are in great need and come from social situations that make it difficult for them to get the care they require at home.
The children generally come from single parent families and are living in very poor conditions. The food they eat, the water they drink is contaminated with radio activity from the Chernobyl explosion in 1986. The land they live on will not be safe for another 25,000 years. The children’s current life expectancy is 32 years old. By bringing them over to visit us for one month each year over the next 5 years it can improve their life expectancy.
Everyone involved is a volunteer, all money is put towards the well being of the children and support for their families back in Mogilev. We have brought over the same 10 children each of the last 2 years. If we have more families we can bring over more children. The children are aged between 7-10. We are looking for homes in the Woking area. Can you welcome a small child into your home for 1 month in September? If you are interested in hearing more about our small charity or would like to give a donation please email Caroline Lesley or Clare via the Bugle or contact Caroline the group coordinator.
